Teaching methodology
Your method
The methodology used in this Trumpet Studio is based on a scientific approach to learning musical instruments.
About us
Research crafted by musicians
This approach began around 2009 when Dr. Albert became interested in addressing learning difficulties in trumpet playing. Gradually, more and more students joined the trumpet studio, and with that, the methodology progressively evolved.
A thorough investigation was conducted into the biomechanical processes involved in trumpet practice, the acquisition of neuromotor skills, the elements that comprise mastery of the instrument, etc. Between 2014 and 2017, numerous scientific research articles were published on the methodology. Finally, in September 2017, the doctoral thesis was published, which includes some aspects of the methodology.
From that moment on, Dr. Albert and the entire team of teachers began to work on the development of a methodology based on three mindsets: discovering, training, and playing to sound.
By “discovering,” we refer to the process of learning new things. It is especially important to understand this process when the trumpeter has already acquired certain automatisms that are not effective. The process of discovering new ways to play the instrument is exciting but also very complex. For this purpose, we developed various strategies, among which “reference sensations” stand out.
“Training” refers to the exercises performed to automate the new skills acquired and transfer them to the practice of the instrument.
Finally, by “playing to sound,” we mean learning to let flow, to connect with the music. In recent years, Dr. Albert and his team have delved into how we can connect with our internal hearing from the first approach to music, thus not waiting for a stage situation.
The methodology also includes a collaborative vision of pedagogy. In it, all teachers collaborate for the benefit of the students, but also the students help each other.
Despite having a significant portion of its application in distance education, the methodology continues to promote virtual recitals, group classes, student meetings, etc
